TYFA Changes Cancer Awareness Policy

September 19, 2018

Starting the 2018 Season, the Texas Youth Football & Cheer Association will be broadening its cancer awareness campaign. TYFA’s overall message is that we are concerned about all cancers and would like to bring more education and awareness to this disease that affects so many lives, both young and old.

To bring awareness to other types of cancers, TYFA will no longer just use October to focus solely on Breast Cancer awareness. Instead, TYFA will allow every month, both spring and fall, to be used by organizations to raise awareness and support for multiple types of cancer.

Recognition must be tasteful. So, in the spirit of tastefulness, TYFA will allow only the following accessories to be worn by athletes and volunteers. These items may be in the color of the cause you wish to support:

  • Wristbands
  • Headbands
  • Recognition Stickers
  • Shoelaces
  • Gloves
  • Sleeves
  • Cleat covers or Spats

Because support is limited to just the accessories listed above, a team may recognize more than one cancer simultaneously if it is done tastefully.

The colors for the most common types of cancer include:
  • Lung cancer: white
  • Brain cancer: grey
  • Breast cancer: pink
  • Carcinoid Cancer – Zebra Stripe
  • Cervical Cancer – Teal / White
  • Childhood Cancer – Gold
  • Colon Cancer – Dark Blue
  • Esophageal Cancer – Periwinkle
  • Gallbladder / Bile Duct Cancer – Kelly Green
  • Head and Neck Cancer – Burgundy / Ivory
  • Hodgkin’s Lymphoma – Violet
  • Kidney Cancer – Orange
  • Leiomyosarcoma – Purple
  • Leukemia – Orange
  • Liver cancer: emerald green
  • Lung Cancer – White
  • Lymphoma: lime green
  • Melanoma – Black
  • Ovarian Cancer – Teal
  • Pancreatic Cancer – Purple
  • Prostate cancer: light blue
  • Sarcoma / Bone Cancer – Yellow
  • Stomach cancer: periwinkle blue
  • Testicular Cancer – Orchid
