Subject: Spring Season Postponed
The Texas Youth Football Association (TYFA), Senior Executive Board (SEB) has been in discussions since Friday regarding the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak and its effect on the 2020 Spring Season and what should be our response regarding the continued threat of this virus. I know some of you have been wondering why TYFA has not made a decision and what we may be waiting on, but we did not want to make an uninformed decision and wanted to make a decision that was in the best interest of the spring participants and not an overreaction.
As stated in the previous email, we are in uncharted waters and a decision of this magnitude was very difficult with far-reaching ramifications and required some thoughtful discussion and education. I for one never thought we would see a time where the world, professional sports, daily life and youth sports would be affected by a viral epidemic. The COVID-19 Coronavirus has wreaked havoc across the country and has caused changes to our social structure and interactions. We have been monitoring the epidemic and reading all available information at our disposal to make a decision that will protect our participants and hopefully preserve the spring football season.
While each chapter is being affected differently by the Coronavirus, TYFA’s Senior Executive Board feels that it is in the best interest of our athletes, volunteers and participant families to push back the start of the 2020 Spring Season. The season will now begin on May 02, 2020. Should TYFA determine that the recommended delay of the season will extend past May 2nd, we will provide timely notification and information regarding the impact of such a delay. TYFA is committed to communicating with you on a consistent basis, providing you with additional information and best practices to work through the coronavirus pandemic. Over the course of the next few weeks, TYFA will continue to provide additional guidance on the impact of delaying the season as well as the details behind the abbreviated season schedule and the 2020 Spring Bowl.
It is our hope that this virus subsides and the TYFA Spring season can continue uninterrupted after May 2nd. As the situation continues to develop, TYFA will do its best to continue to keep our members, volunteers, and families informed. We encourage you to stay in touch with TYFA and share any additional feedback or questions from your local communities by emailing [email protected].
Respectfully,
Brian Morgan
